Benefits of KFS
For UC Davis, the implementation of the Kuali Financial System (KFS) provides all the following advantages:
- Design is based on a higher education business model: The design is an enhancement of the proven functionality of Indiana University’s Financial Information System. Since DaFIS is based upon the same COA as IU’s FIS, the campus will see minimal impact in the transition.
- Proven and modular architecture: The architecture is J2EE. Institutions can choose to implement only those functional elements that meet their needs.
- Community source: The application is being built in a community source environment, which ensures that we are not in this alone, which could expand resources for maintenance and new functionality. The Kuali project has been modeled after Sakai, another community source project.
- No vendor or licensing fees.
- Opportunity for collaboration with other UC’s: UCI and UCSB are interested in the implementation of the KFS at their institutions, which could expand additional resources with a UC perspective for implementation, maintenance and new functionality.
