Sub-Object Code and Organization Hierarchy Changes

• Length of Sub-Object Code field:

  The length of the sub-object code field has increased from 3 to 4 characters. This field increase was necessary to allow for 4-character sub-object codes used for fund balance transaction codes.

  These 4-character sub-object codes are only created and used by central departments (e.g., Accounting & Financial Services) and are not created or used by other departments.

  However, this change affects any users that work with the sub-object table, as the length of the field has increased from 3 to 4 characters. This can cause problems with programs that are expecting a sub-object code with only 3 characters.

• Organization Hierarchy:

  Due to the Kuali implementation, there have been changes to the organization hierarchy in the financial system. The organization hierarchy has changed so that what were the top level orgs are now fourth level, and the only top level org is UC-UNIV-University of California. Most top-level organizations are now under 3-CMP.

• Any exports involving the sub-object code should be changed to reflect a sub-object code where the Length < 4.

• Any DS exports that assumed organizations were at a specific level will need to be rewritten to get the organization’s level from the Organization_Hierarchy table first.
