How To Calculate Benefit Costs

This page provides an overview of how to calculate benefit costs for an employee when processing a Salary Expense Transfer (SET) document. It also will help you determine salary leave assessment and benefit leave assessment rates if the transaction/employee is eligible.

What You Need
A) Determine the Benefits Costs
  1. On the Main Menu of KFS, click on the Benefit Rate Search in the Labor Distribution section

  2. Enter the known search criteria and process the search; this will give you the Composite Benefit Rate (CBR%)
Formula: $AMT x CBR% = Base Benefits Costs (Object Code 8515)

B) Determine the Salary Leave Assessment (If Applicable)
  1. On the Reference Tables tab, click on the Leave Assessment link in the Labor Distribution Reference Data section

  2. Enter the Leave Accrual Code and search; this will give you the Salary Assessment % for the Leave Accrual Code (SLA%)
Formula: $AMT x SLA% = Salary Leave Assessment (Object Code 8550)

C) Determine the Benefit Leave Assessment (If Applicable)

Formula: 8550 Amt (from Step B) x CBR% (from Step A) = Benefit Leave Assessment (Object Code 8551)
